With economists across the City busy finalising their big what-will-happen in 2016 publications, LSR likes to revisit what we wrote 12 months ago and see how those views panned out. This is useful not only because it highlights our successes but also it provides a way to explain our clients what we got wrong. Of course, this breaks one of the golden rules of sell-side economics – never admit when you’re wrong - but we believe it is a way of providing intellectual consistency. Clients can usually forgive economists for changing their mind, as long as they can explain their thinking.
